Similar to the Swiss school-leaving certificate, the International Baccalaureate diploma opens the door for students to study at a university or college of higher education. The IB diploma programme is a challenging curriculum which, over a period of two years, prepares students for final examinations in six subjects. The IB diploma enjoys an excellent reputation and widespread recognition which can give pupils an advantage over bilingual Swiss schoolleaving certificates. The IB diploma also entitles students to study at a Swiss university.

Admission requirements: The four-semester programme is ideal for students with good English skills and a basic high-school education (at least one year at the Juventus senior high school or one to two years at another secondary school or high school). A readiness to closely examine cultural differences, different ways of working and reflect about various types of knowledge are just as important as an ability to work independently and excellent social skills.

Beschreibung

During the IB diploma programme, classes in four of the six diploma examination subjects are taught in English. Foreign-language immersion is extremely effective in terms of cultivating foreign language skills and thus give students a solid foundation for studying at a foreign university. English is introduced as the classroom language at the beginning of the IB diploma programme. An intensive Englisch course prior to the IB diploma programme is recommended.

First offered in 1968, the IB diploma is based on a very diverse curriculum and is now being offered in more than 3000 schools in 139 countries. The philosophy of the IB organization more or less parallels that of the Swiss school-leaving certificate since both focus on giving students a well-balanced general education.
