Special Elements of the IB

CAS – Creativity, Action, Service

In addition to their normal school work, all students are required to engage in creative, sporting or charitable activities (music, dancing, event organization and planning, aid campaigns, volunteering). Over the course of the two-year programme, a total of at least 150 hours must be devoted to such activities. The CAS requirement aims to promote personal development. Sharing with other people reinforces students' self confidence and develops in them a sense of compassion as well as the ability to cooperate.

ToK – Theory of Knowledge

The Theory of Knowledge course aims to continually question the foundations of what we know and help students gain an overview of this knowledge. Students take a critical look at curricular and extracurricular topics and, in doing so, learn how to refine their own way of thinking.

Extended essay

Students write an essay on a topic of their choice. This encourages independent research work and teaches them how to write an essay as they will later be expected to do at the university level.
